Hospitals and Healthcare: Your Ancient City and First Coast Guide |
A practical starting map for hospitals, emergency rooms, specialty care, and community clinics available to St. Augustine and the area. |
![]() At some point in our lives, we needed or will seek out medical care. It is always better to understand your options. |
Saint Augustine and the First Coast offer hospital care, round-the-clock emergency departments, outpatient specialists, rehabilitation, and community clinics. The key question is which facility fits the care you need—and where its services are located.
This guide starts in the Ancient City and St. Johns County, then points to selected regional resources in Duval and Clay counties. It is a starting map, not a complete directory or ranking. For a life-threatening emergency, call 911; do not delay care to compare facilities.
Start close to home: UF Health Flagler Hospital
UF Health Flagler Hospital, at 400 Health Park Boulevard, St. Augustine, FL 32086, is the hospital campus many local residents still know simply as Flagler Hospital. Florida’s facility profile lists emergency medicine alongside specialties including cardiology, surgery, obstetrics, orthopedics, and psychiatry.
The campus is a useful starting point when researching hospital-based care near Saint Augustine, but a hospital’s specialty list does not guarantee that a particular physician, procedure or appointment is available immediately. Ask the scheduling team which department handles your need and whether your appointment is in the main hospital or a separate office.
Two northern St. Johns County hospital options
Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County, at 205 Trinity Way, St. Johns, FL 32259, provides hospital-based specialty services and 24/7 emergency care. Its published services include cardiac care, imaging, laboratory services, and orthopedic care.
One detail matters for growing families: the hospital describes its new maternity and newborn tower as expected by the end of 2027. That is a future expansion, not evidence that its planned labor-and-delivery services are available today.
UF Health Durbin Park is another recent addition in northern St. Johns County. UF Health’s September opening announcement identified September 22, 2026, as the hospital’s public opening, following the ribbon-cutting celebration.
The announcement described a 99-bed hospital with a 24-hour emergency department, surgery, and advanced imaging. Because services in the adjacent medical office building were being introduced separately, confirm the exact clinic, entrance, and availability when booking; the hospital opening does not establish that every planned outpatient specialty has begun seeing patients.
A freestanding ER is different from urgent care
Baptist & Wolfson St. Augustine Emergency Room, at 461 Outlet Mall Boulevard, St. Augustine, FL 32084, provides adult and pediatric emergency care near State Road 16 and Interstate 95. Baptist lists it as open 24/7, with imaging services on site.
Further north, Baptist & Wolfson SilverLeaf Emergency Room is at 8595 St. Johns Parkway, St. Augustine, FL 32092. Its location page also lists 24-hour adult and pediatric emergency care.
These are emergency facilities, not ordinary walk-in clinics. Do not assume they have the same inpatient services as a full hospital campus; a patient needing admission or another level of care may require transfer. Also check separate imaging appointment arrangements rather than assuming every outpatient test operates on the ER’s schedule.
For non-life-threatening needs, CareSpot Urgent Care of St. Augustine, at 2095 U.S. Highway 1 South, St. Augustine, FL 32086, accepts walk-ins and offers appointment booking. Check current hours, age limits, available testing, and insurance before a routine visit. If you are unsure how serious a problem is, seek clinical guidance promptly rather than using this guide to diagnose it.
Regional hospitals and specialty care
Baptist Medical Center South, at 14550 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, FL 32258, is in Duval County. Its campus includes adult and children’s emergency services, surgery, imaging, and labor-and-delivery care—a different service mix from a freestanding ER.
Mayo Clinic’s Florida hospital campus, at 4500 San Pablo Road, Jacksonville, FL 32224, brings inpatient and outpatient services together. For a planned specialty consultation, begin with appointment instructions and insurance requirements, then confirm which campus building you need.
UF Health Jacksonville provides Level I trauma resources to the region through TraumaOne. Emergency-care needs and the responding medical team determine trauma destinations; they are not interchangeable with a routine specialist appointment.
Other regional hospital choices include HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville and HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital in Clay County. Their service directories help identify available specialties. Geography, your clinician’s referral, and your specific insurance network all matter when comparing planned care.
Children’s care: know the clinic and the hospital
Wolfson Children’s Hospital, at 800 Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32207, is a regional children’s hospital. The local Baptist & Wolfson emergency locations connect families to pediatric emergency resources, but they are not the same physical campus.
Nemours Children’s Health, Jacksonville, at 807 Children’s Way, Jacksonville, FL 32207, provides pediatric specialty appointments and works with regional hospitals. Check referral requirements and the appointment location: specialty clinic visits and emergency hospital visits follow different processes.
Community care, veterans’ services and rehabilitation
Aza Health’s Saint Augustine medical clinic is at 105 Whitehall Drive, Suite 109, St. Augustine, FL 32086. Its official location page describes family healthcare and a sliding-fee option for qualified patients. The dental office is separate; confirm the correct location when you call.
The Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County, at 200 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine, FL 32084, lists immunizations, family planning, WIC, and other public-health services. It is not a substitute for a hospital emergency department.
Eligible veterans can explore Leo C. Chase Jr. VA Clinic at 100 Deerfield Preserve Boulevard, St. Augustine, FL 32086, for primary care and related services. Confirm enrollment, eligibility, and appointment arrangements with the VA.
For recovery and mobility needs, Brooks Rehabilitation’s Saint Augustine outpatient clinic is at 190 Southpark Boulevard, Suite 100, St. Augustine, FL 32086. Its physical therapy services are outpatient; Brooks advises checking coverage for this hospital-based clinic.
Think beyond the hospital building
Healthcare access also includes prescriptions, mental-health appointments, diagnostic tests, and post-discharge support. Aza’s Saint Augustine contact listing identifies medical, pharmacy, and mental-health services, while the VA clinic describes psychiatric and social-work support within its community-based model. Ask how to arrange these services instead of assuming that a general appointment automatically includes them.
For an older relative or someone recovering from surgery, ask the treating team about the next step before leaving: outpatient therapy, home services, equipment, or another care setting. Keep the discharge instructions and confirm who handles follow-up questions. A referral is more useful when you know the receiving office's name and whether it has received your records.
Residents without reliable transportation should discuss that barrier when making the appointment. Don't assume a clinic provides rides; ask what assistance or community referrals are available.
Put your own healthcare map together
Before a planned visit, verify the exact provider and location with both the practice and your insurer. Ask about referrals, new-patient availability, facility charges, financial assistance, and records transfers. Keep your primary-care contact, medication list, and emergency contact in an accessible place.
The First Coast has several layers of care, from neighborhood appointments to regional hospitals. Knowing those distinctions before you need them makes this growing healthcare landscape easier to navigate. Which local healthcare question should we explore next?
