Hey there!
Behind a familiar place is usually someone doing work worth noticing. Today we’re following that thread through coffee, local craftsmanship, and the goods we bring home. Sometimes the best discovery starts with asking one more question.
Today’s First Coast TriviaWhat type of business once occupied the building now home to DOS Coffee & Wine on San Marco Avenue?
A coffee stop with a second lifeDOS Coffee & Wine occupies a former auto-parts and repair shop at 300 San Marco Avenue. Its current menu includes handcrafted coffee and house-made baked goods—a very different reason to stop by today. On your next visit, notice the setting and the menu. Buildings carry memories, and a new use can keep a familiar address part of neighborhood life. If you have an older memory of this location, we’d love to hear it.
Look beyond the Lighthouse viewThe St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum offers more than its tower. Its visit page describes artifact conservation, maritime exhibits, and Heritage Boatworks, where volunteers work on traditional wooden boats. That gives a visit another purpose: learning how people preserve skills and objects, not simply collecting a photo from the top. Check current admission and the day’s activities before you go; a listed program doesn't guarantee every demonstration runs continuously. The museum is at 100 Red Cox Drive.
Ask a maker about the makingWhen you browse a market, ask questions beyond price: how was this made, what material was chosen, and what care will it need at home? Those conversations can help you choose something you’ll use and enjoy. The Amphitheater’s Saturday market includes locally crafted goods and art alongside food and plants. Vendor attendance varies, so treat the market as a place to discover rather than a guarantee that a specific seller will be there. Saturday’s regular session is October 17, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM.
Your trivia answerAn auto-parts and repair shop, formerly Reliable Auto Parts. DOS describes that earlier use on its official website. Know a neighborhood gem, interesting local person, or small business we should feature? Hit reply and tell me about them.
